Chilton Hall General Access Computer Lab Upgrades
The Chilton Hall General Access Computer Lab recently upgraded their computers to Dual Boot Apple iMacs and underwent a network infastructure overhaul to give students access to a full gigabit network. What does this mean for students using the Chilton Hall General Access Computer Lab? It means they get the freedom to choose either the Microsoft's Windows operating system or Apple's OS X operating system. Since the computers are "Dual Boot," they start up or "boot," natively in their respective operating system environments. All computers, on both the OS X and Windows sides, have the Adobe Creative Suite 6 (Design & Web Premium), Adobe Acrobat Pro, Microsoft Office, multiple browsers options, and much more!
With the network upgrades users can download files & stream class videos and lectures at amazingly fast speeds. To put all this into perspective, we've seen internet speed peaks at 370MB/sec. That means you can download a 5GB of data (video, pictures, files) in less than 2 minutes! The network connection is no longer a bottleneck for waiting on internet pages to load or files to transfer.
All the new computers have beautiful 21.5" HD (1920x1080) displays, Intel 2.5GHz Quad-Core i5 processors, 4GB RAM, AMD Radeon HD 6750M (512MB GDDR5) and Cat 6 ethernet.
We hope the students using our lab appreciate the upgrades and enjoy their new computers. We're very proud of the setup we have and can't wait to see how the students will start using the new technology!
